The Journal of Empirical Economics and Multidisciplinary Methods (JEEMM) recognizes that occasionally, authors may wish to withdraw their submitted manuscript during the editorial and review process. The following policy outlines the guidelines and procedures for withdrawing a paper from consideration for publication in the journal.
Author Request: Authors may request to withdraw their manuscript before it enters the peer review process. To do so, the corresponding author must submit a formal request to the editorial office via email, stating the reason for the withdrawal.
No Penalty: There is no penalty for withdrawing a manuscript before peer review begins. Upon receiving the request, the editorial office will promptly cease the review process and confirm the withdrawal.
Reason for Withdrawal: If a manuscript has already undergone peer review and the authors wish to withdraw it, the corresponding author must submit a formal withdrawal request, clearly outlining the reasons for the decision.
Peer Review Fees: If the manuscript has been reviewed and the authors wish to withdraw after peer review, the editorial office may request the authors to reimburse any fees associated with the review process, if applicable.
Decision Impact: Withdrawal after peer review may delay the consideration of future submissions from the same authors. The manuscript will be removed from the review and publication pipeline once the withdrawal request is processed.
Post-Acceptance Withdrawal: Authors may request to withdraw their manuscript even after it has been accepted for publication but before it is formally published. Withdrawal requests at this stage must be accompanied by a valid reason and are subject to the editorial team’s approval.
Publication Fees: If the manuscript has already been processed for publication (e.g., layout, DOI assignment), the authors may still be responsible for any publication fees incurred. A discussion on these fees will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
Public Disclosure: If a manuscript is withdrawn after acceptance but before formal publication, a brief explanation may be provided in the journal’s records, ensuring transparency about the manuscript’s withdrawal.
Post-Publication Withdrawal: Once an article has been published online (either in an early view or final issue), it cannot be withdrawn in the traditional sense. However, if the withdrawal request arises due to issues such as plagiarism or data errors, the journal may issue a retraction or a correction, which will be clearly indicated in the article’s metadata and associated records.
Retraction Process: In cases where a retraction is necessary, the editorial board will review the circumstances and, if approved, will notify the author(s), and a retraction notice will be published. Retractions are made to preserve the integrity of the scholarly record.
Record Keeping: When a manuscript is formally withdrawn, JEEMM will update the manuscript’s status in the editorial system. A record of the withdrawal will be kept for internal purposes but will not be made publicly visible.
Future Submissions: Authors who have withdrawn manuscripts after peer review or acceptance may be asked to provide further clarification when submitting future manuscripts. Such withdrawals will be reviewed to ensure the integrity of the submission process is maintained.
JEEMM emphasizes ethical behavior in the publication process. Withdrawals should not be requested for trivial reasons or as a means to circumvent the publication process.
Authors are reminded to ensure that their work is original, free from plagiarism, and that all authors have agreed to the manuscript’s submission and publication before submitting or withdrawing it.
Response Time: The editorial team will respond to withdrawal requests promptly. Authors will receive a confirmation email once the manuscript has been successfully withdrawn.
Transparency: Any withdrawal of manuscripts will be recorded in the journal’s submission system. If the manuscript has been assigned a DOI or published online, a withdrawal or retraction notice will be issued, providing transparency to the academic community.
